Our Story
Every story has a beginning. This is ours…
Central Baptist Church began with 6 couples and three friends meeting in a private home in Windmill Point in February of 1978. In August of 1979, the group moved to the Recreation Hall of Windmill Point, and was, at that time, organized as a Mission. The mission requested and received sponsorship from the First Baptist Church of Ft. Pierce.
On February 22, 1981, there was a ground – breaking ceremony to begin building on the site where the church now stands, 202 SW Tulip Blvd Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Construction was begun and the building was finished in August of 1981. Services were first held in the new building on October 4th, 1981. The building was dedicated on November 1, 1981.
Along with morning and evening worship services on Sundays, as well as a mid-week prayer service on Wednesday, the schedule included Sunday School each Sunday morning. A nursery was provided for small children. Music and Vacation Bible School were also part of the church’s ministry. Women’s Missionary Union was added in 1983.
On September 30, 1984, the Mission was constituted as Central Baptist Church. In 1985 and 1986 additional missions programs were begun, among which were Baptist Men’s Ministry, as well as various children’s programs. A bus ministry also began to reach out in the community.
As the church steadily grew, temporary classrooms had to be added in the rear of the auditorium. The church continues to grow and prosper, and today, it has a reputation in the community as a warm, welcoming, caring, loving, church family. Much emphasis is given to missions, preaching and teaching the Word, evangelism, music, discipleship, worship and family life.
